Golf Carts, Glowing Waterfalls & a Bar in a Cave: Nature at Night at Top of the Rock

We love a good holiday light display, and here in Florida we've seen our share of palm trees wrapped in twinkle lights. But every now and then something comes along that's just different. Picture this: you're behind the wheel of your own golf cart, bundled up in a blanket, rolling through a glowing Ozark canyon past lit-up waterfalls, under a deer so big you drive right beneath it, and then straight into a cave where a bar is waiting for you.

That's Nature at Night at Top of the Rock, and it's one of our favorite reasons to head to Branson, Missouri, this holiday season.

What Is Nature at Night?

Top of the Rock is the Ozarks Heritage Preserve at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Missouri, just south of Branson. Johnny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops, created it. In the daytime, its Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail is a 2.5-mile electric-cart ride through the hills. After dark, that same trail turns into Nature at Night.

(Quick note: you may have heard it called "Lost Canyon Christmas," the name it had when it first opened. Today Big Cedar calls it Nature at Night.)

Here's what you'll see on the ride:

  • 2.5 miles of light displays with a nature theme: think giant glowing wildlife, not candy canes

  • Waterfalls and bridge crossings lit up after dark

  • A trip through the cave, including a stop at the famous Bat Bar tucked inside

  • Narration along parts of the trail about the Ozarks and the land

Plan on about 1 to 1½ hours on the trail. One honest heads-up: this isn't a Santa-and-reindeer, synced-to-music kind of show. It's peaceful and beautiful and very Ozarks, and that's exactly why we love it.

Your Nature at Night ticket includes:

  • Admission to the Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail (your cart is included)

  • Admission to the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum (same day)

  • One digital photo

  • One drink at the Bat Bar

When Is It?

Big Cedar's official page says Nature at Night returns November 1, 2026. It runs from sunset into the evening, and you'll pick a timed slot when you book. Big Cedar hasn't posted exact 2026 holiday closing hours or an end date yet. For its last season, the page said Nature at Night ran "until May 25 from sunset – 9:00 PM" on select days. Check your date when you book.

What Does It Cost?

Here's how the pricing works:

  • Pricing is per person, not per cart. Adults and kids have separate ticket prices on the official ticket site, and children 3 and under are free.

  • Prices are variable by date. Top of the Rock uses date-based pricing, and the official booking page shows the exact rate once you pick your night. Busy holiday dates usually cost more, and booking early generally saves money.

  • Entry fee: $15 per vehicle. Non-members pay this separately when they arrive, by card only. Big Cedar Lodge overnight guests and Ozarks Heritage Preserve members get in free.

  • Member discounts don't apply. Preserve memberships don't cover Nature at Night, and member discounts aren't offered because space is so limited.

Big Cedar hasn't put 2026 holiday ticket prices on its public pages yet, so we're not going to guess. Pick your date on the official booking page to see the real number, or let us look it up for you.

How Many Fit in a Cart?

Each electric cart holds up to four people. Big Cedar's holiday page describes it as an enclosed 4-seat golf cart. Since you pay per person, a family of four can share one cart. Drivers must be 18 or older, and you'll sign a waiver before you head out.

How to Book

  1. Go to the official Big Cedar Lodge / Top of the Rock website (bigcedar.com) and find Nature at Night on the Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail.

  2. Make sure you pick Nature at Night, not the daytime Lost Canyon Cave ticket. The daytime ticket is not valid at night.

  3. Choose your date and a 30-minute arrival window, then add adult and child tickets.

  4. Arrive within your time slot. Tickets are only good for the date you selected.

  5. Pay the $15 vehicle entry fee at the gate, unless you're staying at Big Cedar or you're a member.

Can you just walk up? Technically yes, since reservations aren't required. But Big Cedar says walk-up tickets aren't guaranteed, and it recommends that even overnight guests buy ahead because space is limited. Thanksgiving week and Christmas break are the busiest times. Book as soon as your travel dates are set.

Weather: The trail only closes for things like lightning or ice. If that happens, you can reschedule or get a refund.

Our Tips for a Magical Night

  • Do the museum first. The Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum is included with your ticket and closes at 7 PM. It's genuinely amazing, so give it a couple of hours before your cart time.

  • Dress in layers. Ozarks weather in November and December can be anything from T-shirt warm to snow-flurry cold. Bring gloves, a hat, and a blanket. Floridians, trust us on this one!

  • Little ones are welcome. Babies and toddlers can ride on an adult's lap without a car seat (it's your call). Some kids might jump at the dark cave and a growly "bear" sound effect, so give them a heads-up.

  • Accessibility: If a guest can transfer into a golf cart, they can enjoy the whole trail.

  • Leave the cooler and the pup at home. Coolers aren't allowed, and only service animals can come (no pets or ESAs).

  • Make it dinner and lights. Top of the Rock has restaurants on site, including Osage and the Buffalo Bar, with incredible views over Table Rock Lake.

Turn It Into an Ozarks Holiday Getaway

Nature at Night is one great evening, and it fits right into a full holiday trip:

  • Stay at Big Cedar Lodge. You get free entry to Top of the Rock, and Big Cedar goes all out for the holidays with its "Home for the Holidays" season. Think ice skating, snow tubing, Santa visits, a self-guided drive-through light tour, and a Holiday Tram Tour, all with millions of twinkling lights.

  • Silver Dollar City's An Old Time Christmas. This Branson theme park is famous for its holiday festival, with millions of lights, shows, and a huge Christmas tree.

  • Branson's Christmas shows. The Branson Strip turns into Christmas central, with holiday productions at theaters all over town.

  • Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Springfield. This is the original flagship, and Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium is right next door. It's a fun stop on your way to or from the airport.

Getting There from Florida

  • Fly into Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF). It's about an hour's drive to Top of the Rock. Several Florida airports have nonstop or one-stop flights, depending on the season.

  • Or check Branson Airport (BKG). It's closer, about a 20–30 minute drive, but it has limited flights, so we'll check what's running for your dates.

  • Driving? From Central Florida it's roughly 1,100 miles, a long two-day drive.

  • Rent a car. Branson is spread out, and you'll want wheels to get between Big Cedar, Silver Dollar City, and the shows.
